Carl Pistorius 29, the brother of South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, has been badly hurt in a car wreck on a highway in South Africa.

“Carl's vehicle was hit head-on by another car that had swerved from the opposite side of the highway into the oncoming traffic" his family said in a statement.

South African media reported that he sustained multiple fractures and suffered internal bleeding and he is in intensive care after a head-on collision near Pretoria.

In May last year Carl Pistorius was acquitted of a negligent killing charge after being involved in a road accident in 2008 in which a female motorcyclist died.
